with a devil on the shoulder

Sometimes, Sam looks across the tiny motel room and at the guy sprawled on his bed and wonders how it ended up like this. Lucifer riding shotgun... the real Lucifer. It's a million kinds of bad news and yet here they are, hunting, and probably slowly driving each other crazy.
Sam knows he's got to be going a little crazy, because sometimes Lucifer's company isn't even really that horrible. He's useful on hunts too. He knows plenty of lore, can pinpoint weaknesses with frightening accuracy.
And for now at least, Lucifer seems to accept that Sam's not going to agree to be his vessel again and that the apocalypse is off the table.
Shaking his head and clearing his thoughts, he nudges his laptop aside. "You want to go out? I'm starving now."

Unlike his younger brothers, Lucifer had a firm and easy grasp on modern slang. Very little went soaring over his head, as it tended to do around Castiel.
Still, he set down the chopsticks and took another swallow from his beer. An acquired taste, to be sure, but it was like the rest of humanity. It took getting used to. Learning what he did and did not like. Beer was good. Coffee and whiskey were good. Pie was too sweet (although he still stole Dean's just to watch him twitch) and sodas had too much carbonation.
Lucifer had to admit, he had a good teacher in Sam. Sam, who had lived a difficult life and instead of becoming bitter or angry about it, was kind to people. Gentle, despite his size and Lucifer wanted him. Wanted to drag the big hunter against him and drink in his warmth. Bask in it.

For all the times Lucifer could grate on him, there were times when he was fascinating to talk to, invaluable while they hunted.
And Sam liked to believe that others could make the right choice, no matter how far gone they were. A fool's hope, maybe, but he needed to believe it. He needed to know people had a choice even now, could change... even Lucifer himself.
He seemed to be, little by little. He wasn't exactly a threat anymore anyway, even if it was all an act to get closer to the Winchesters.

Date: 2013-12-04 04:51 pm (UTC)This would probably be where any other human would get the check and immediately head back to either the car or the motel to have that long-awaited talk. But he was patient. He could wait through dinner, and if Sam was indeed interested, then he could wait too.
Lucifer didn't engage in any real navel-gazing or introspection. There had been time enough for that in the Cage and it had only left him exhausted. So many possibilities, chances not taken, decisions that could have been different. Now that he was human, he wasn't going to waste his now very short life on what if.
He was changing, and fairly certain that it was all due to the young man sitting across from him. Anyone else probably would have killed him on the spot.
"Then we can wait until we get back if that's what you want."

Date: 2013-12-05 12:05 am (UTC)"Probably a good idea," he answers, glimpsing back across the table.
"It's not exactly appropriate to discuss details where people can overhear after all... they might not appreciate it."

Date: 2013-12-05 04:22 am (UTC)With a pleased sound, he dug into his food as it was delivered. Dark and spicy and exactly what he wanted. As for anything else he wanted? Well. That could wait. Smirking, Lucifer offered him a plate of heavily spiced chicken. "That's your sense of decorum Sam, not mine. If you want to wait, then we'll wait until we're finished."

Date: 2013-12-07 09:18 pm (UTC)"So, anywhere you need to head to after we finish eating or do you want to get back?"

Date: 2013-12-08 04:55 am (UTC)"We need another box of shotgun shells, rock salt, silver nitrate, three firing pins, sage that doesn't come from a grocery store," and hadn't that been an interesting argument with Dean. Close enough doesn't count in spellwork. "Yarrow and three more journals. But it can wait until the case is over with."
He'd become the defacto inventory specialist for the brothers. Lucifer may have lost his grace, but he hadn't lost his intellect. Everything they used, he remembered and there was a constant running list in his head of anything they might need along the way.
"I don't think FBI agents do much shopping for supplies along those lines."

Date: 2013-12-08 04:33 pm (UTC)"Alright, so, we'll head to the room after this. After we handle the case tomorrow and get out of town, we'll find a place to stop for more supplies." But first, they'd have that talk. Sam couldn't deny he was interested, but he tried to keep it as far from his thoughts as he finished eating.

Date: 2013-12-09 04:18 am (UTC)"Fair enough. The hunt should wrap up fairly quickly tomorrow. A simple vetch hunt and we're out of town again." Lucifer offered Sam over his choice of the fortune cookies. Too sweet for his taste.
Ample time to talk when they got back to the room, really. And if nothing happens beyond that talk, he could wait. Sam was worth waiting for.

Date: 2013-12-11 11:37 pm (UTC)Whatever happened when they got back to the room... well, Sam thought he was ready for it. They'd figure it out.

Date: 2013-12-12 08:22 pm (UTC)A part of him wanted to simply pin Sam against the wall and kiss him breathless. He was Lucifer, a former prince of Heaven, King of Hell and he was used to simply taking what he wanted. But Sam was different. Lucifer wanted more than just to take. He wanted it to be mutual. To know that Sam wanted this as much as he did.
He wanted Sam to know that he meant something to him.
Inside the motel, he shrugged out of his jacket and dropped bonelessly to the bed. If they were going to talk, he was at least going to be comfortable.

Date: 2013-12-15 05:00 am (UTC)He shouldn't want this. This was Lucifer, the Lucifer, and he had to wonder if he was signing yet another ticket to Hell.
But he'd changed. Against all odds, Lucifer was different from the angel he'd met a while ago. There was this draw there that was hard to ignore. Moving forward, he went to settle on the bed next to him.
"So, about what you said in the restaurant..."

Date: 2013-12-16 04:02 am (UTC)Elbows resting on his knees, he shifted to look over at Sam. Tense and unsure, never as confident as he should be. Sam was the reason that he'd survived being stripped of his grace. He'd taken him in when what he should have done was killed him on the spot.
Lucifer would never love humans as his family did. But thanks to Sam, he tolerated them. Respected them. He could live among them.
"I've never lied to you Sam. I'm not now. I want this, I want you."
no subject
Date: 2013-12-17 01:24 am (UTC)And it hadn't always been a good certainty, with good intentions, but it was something Sam kind of envied right now.
He moved to settle on the edge of the bed next to Lucifer, looking him over quietly. "I know... I know."
And he did. He trusted Lucifer wouldn't lie to him. "And I'm not saying I don't want you. If I didn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation... It's just--"
He shrugged. "Do you know what you're getting into?"

Date: 2013-12-19 04:27 am (UTC)"You're overthinking things Sam. I'm not suggesting this for something as simply and superficial as sex. If that's all I wanted, I'd follow Dean's lead and simply pick up what I chose at the bar."
And because he wanted to know what it was like, even if Sam refused him, Lucifer leaned forward, barely brushing his lips against Sam's.

Date: 2013-12-20 07:42 pm (UTC)Overthinking things... Sam was good at that and he just wasn't sure if, in this moment, it was the right or wrong thing to do.
But there he is, leaning in to kiss him and Sam doesn't protest that either. He leans in slowly to catch him in a more proper kiss.

Date: 2013-12-21 04:45 pm (UTC).. even if bating Dean was something of an amusing pastime for him.
Unlike some of his younger siblings, Lucifer wasn't ignorant when it came to matters like sex. He cupped Sam's cheek as he returned the kiss, drawing him in closer. His hair was exactly as soft and thick as it looked and he carded his fingers through it, deepening the kiss.

Date: 2013-12-22 06:33 am (UTC)This was being offered and there was no denying how much of a draw there was between them.
His own hands settled at Lucifer's hips and pulled him in closer, arched up against him.

Date: 2013-12-29 04:17 am (UTC)Maybe more than one.
But he wasn't going to overthink it either, not with that soft sound Sam made and the way he pulled him in close until there was absolutely no space between them.

Date: 2013-12-29 04:56 pm (UTC)One hand came up to rest against the back of Lucifer's head, keeping him close.
